What is a Wallet Officer?
- An organisation should designate a wallet officer[1] provided it is obliged[2] to accept European Digital Identity Wallets[3] or wishes to leverage the opportunities associated with their introduction, and should publish the contact details.[4]
- The wallet officer should be designated at an early stage based on professional qualities and, in particular, expert knowledge[5] and practical experience. The wallet officer should directly report to the highest management level of the organisation.[6]
- The wallet officer shall have at least the following tasks:
- to coordinate the design, implementation and facilitation of the reuse of use cases for European Digital Identity Wallets,
- to inform and advise the management[7] affiliated organisations and employees involved in processing operations regarding their obligations as well as the opportunities and risks associated with the use cases,
- to monitor compliance with the applicable legal framework and with the policies of the organisation including the assignment of responsibilities, awareness-raising and training of staff involved in processing operations, and the related audits[8] aiming at continuous improvement.
- The management of the organisation should support the wallet officer in performing its task by providing resources necessary to carry out those tasks.[9]
